Sony Xperia XZ4

Display and Design

Much to the delight of fans and critics alike, Sony discarded its signature OmniBalance design to swap for a sleeker, curvier look for Xperia XZ2 and XZ3. XZ4 is expected to follow a similar design route, however, with comparatively slimmer bezels on the front. The device is predicted to be tall with an aspect ratio of 21:9. The speculated dimensions are 166.9 x 72.4 x 8.2 mm, with a thickness of 8.9mm.

According to a CAD render, the phone does not feature a fingerprint sensor on the back. There are speculations leading to believe it could be embedded in the power button on the side of the phone or Sony could also be joining the ranks of companies introducing the in-display fingerprint scanner. Although missing in XZ3, reportedly XZ4 will feature a 3.5mm headphone jack. A USB C-port would also be made available at the bottom of the phone.

The display screen is expected to be 6.5 inches equipped with OLED and Quad HD+ resolution along with cutting-edge features likes X-Reality and Sony’s Triluminos technology. The display screen is manufactured by LG.

The phone features three vertically aligned rear cameras and although it has not been specified yet, we can expect a main, a wide angle and a telephoto lens. The main camera will be equipped with a ½.3-inch sensor along with Optical Image Stabilization. A memory stack sensor is also expected for 1080p slow motion videos. The front camera will support a 24 megapixels super wide-angle lens.

The collaboration between Sony and Qualcomm goes a long time back so it is very likely XZ4 will be powered by the powerful Snapdragon 855, the latest chipset by the company. This upgrade from the XZ3’s Snapdragon 845 will optimize the performance and offer a threefold boost to A.I applications. If it is released at the CES 2019, as expected, it will be the first smartphone to launch with the Snapdragon 855 SoC. Moreover, it will come with a 6GB RAM and either a 64 or 256 GB hard drive. It will also support a microSD card up to 512 GB. There are reports of an 8 GB RAM variant as well. The battery life will be more efficient as the phone will feature a powerful 3,900mAh battery. Fast charging and wireless charging will both be supported. Xperia XZ4 will utilize the latest Android Apple Pie v9.0 as its operating system.

Following the upward trend is seen in the prices of flagship smartphones, XZ4 is expected to be priced slightly greater than XZ3 which was priced at $900.
