Everything We Know About the Samsung Galaxy Watch Due To Be Launched

Samsung is on the verge of raising the bar high in the smartwatch market with its upcoming release. The company will release the Samsung Galaxy Watch later this week. Though it does not bear the name Samsung Gear Sport 2 or Samsung Gear S4, the product will be a sequel to Samsung's critically acclaimed smartwatch line.

The Galaxy Watch, which Samsung announced alongside the Galaxy Note 9, will be available in two sizes. The smaller one measures 42mm while the larger one measures 46mm in circumference. Expected Release Date

Samsung will likely release the Galaxy Watch at the end of August 2018. The device will be the company's latest high-end smartwatch. Its release date in the UK is on September 6. It will be available for purchase in the US on August 24 alongside the Galaxy Note 9. Preorders for the device are still open in the US and UK.

 

Purchases made at the Samsung store in the UK qualify for a free Wireless Charger Duo that is compatible with Qi-enabled phones. The Wireless Charger Duo normally goes for £89. You will get a free extra watchband when you purchase the smartwatch directly from Samsung in the US.

 

Pricing

The 42mm version with Bluetooth will retail at £279 / $329.99 / AU$490. Consequently, the 42mm version with LTE will retail at $399 in the US. It will cost you £299 / $349.99 / AU$520 to buy the 46mm version with Bluetooth and $379.99 for the 42mm one with LTE. Both watches with LTE support are compatible with the T Mobile carrier.

 

Design and Display

The larger version of the watch is 63g in weight and 13mm in thickness without the strap. It is only available in silver though its straps are available in grey, black and blue colors. The smaller version (available in Rose Gold and Midnight Black colors) is 49g in weight and 12.7mm in thickness without the strap. Its 22mm straps are available in brown, beige, purple, red yellow, grey and black colors.

Both versions of the Galaxy Watch feature a rotating bezel and over 60,000 watch faces for personalization. You can use the watch in a water body that is less than 5 meters in depth. The smaller one has a 1.2-inch circular super AMOLED screen while the larger one has a 1.3-inch circular super AMOLED screen. Both of them have the Corning Gorilla DX+ tech glass for protection and a screen resolution of 360 x 360.

 

Battery, RAM, Storage, and Chipset

The RAM is 1.5GB in the LTE versions and 768MB in the Bluetooth versions. The smaller version has a 270mAh battery while the larger one has a 472mAh battery. Both watches have a storage size of 4GB and Exynos 9110 Dual core 1.15GHz chipset.

 

Software

Samsung announced that the Galaxy Watch would feature the Bixby voice assistant software. The watch will also run on the Tizen 4 software instead of the Google's Wear OS. It will feature a Daily Briefing app, which can give you an overview of your day-to-day schedules. The smartwatch is compatible with the Galaxy app store.

 

Fitness Features

You can rely on the new stress management feature in the Galaxy Watch to monitor your breathing and heart rates. The watch is capable of detecting numerous workouts including cycling and yoga. It also features a sleep tracker for monitoring and managing your sleep. It is still not clear how the features of the watch differ from those in the Gear Fit 2 Pro and Gear Sport.
