Everything We Know About the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 - Facts vs Rumors

According to a statement issued by Samsung on June 27, the launch date of the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is August 9. The official launch will take place at 11 AM EST (4 PM BST, 8 AM PST) in Brooklyn, New York. The phablet will arrive at the smartphone market earlier than the previous versions. In the past, Samsung used to delay the release until Late August.

Design Speculations

Samsung's Note devices usually attract lots of attention because of their features. Most of them come with a large screen, long battery life, and a handy S Pen. There are rumors regarding an in-screen fingerprint sensor that the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 will feature. Samsung didn't confirm whether this rumor is true or not.

The phablet is likely to feature a dual-lens camera with HDR video recording capabilities and Bixby 2.0. The features weren't present in the previous Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus. Recently-released LG and Sony smartphones have these features. What we know is that Samsung confirmed that it will be testing the phablet's firmware before the scheduled release date.

Why Samsung Wants to Release the Phone Early

Samsung is always on the verge of competing with leading smartphone brands such as iPhone by releasing affordable smartphones. The company wants its Galaxy Note 9 to grab a lot of attention and outshine the iPhone 9 and iPhone X2, scheduled for an early September release date. Samsung wants its customers to get the phone before September.

Early Leaks of the Phone

Samsung customers shouldn't have high expectations of how the phone will look like. The customers should expect the phone to appear as an upgraded version of the Galaxy Note 8. The Galaxy Note 9 can disappoint you if you expect it to feature lots of changes. The picture published below reveals what the phone may look like.

From the picture, it is evident that the Galaxy Note 9 may have the same design as the Galaxy Note 8. The phone will have a glass back, metal frame and rectangular shape. On the back, you're likely to see a fingerprint scanner and a dual-lens camera. It is unlikely that the phablet will feature an in-display scanner. The picture also depicts that the scanner is below the dual-lens camera just like in the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus. The cameras for the Galaxy Note 9 appear to lie side by side while those of the Galaxy S9 is in a vertical position.

According to the leaks, the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 will feature a Bixby button on the right, volume buttons on the left edge and slim bezels on the front side. The phablet will also feature a microphone on the bottom edge, a S Pen silo, a speaker grille, USB-C port and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The phone will apparently be thicker and wider as compared to the Galaxy Note 8. Unlike the Galaxy Note 8, which had 162.5 x 74.8 x 8.6mm dimensions, the Galaxy Note 9 will have 161.9 x 76.3 x 8.8mm dimensions.

Price and Battery Rumors

The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 will likely have a higher price than the previous Note devices. When the Galaxy Note 8 arrived to the market, it had a retail price of  $929 (£869, AU$1,499). Samsung won't lower the prices for the new phone especially when Apple is pushing its iPhone X prices higher. The Galaxy Note 9 will have a different price in the US and other countries.

A source said that the Note 9 will come with a 3,850mAh battery. Its battery capacity will be bigger than that of the Note 8 (3,300mAh) and the S9 Plus (3,500mAh). A recent rumor also reveals that the Note 9 will sport a 4,000mAh battery. Other specifications that people expect the phone to have include 256GB ROM, 8GB RAM, Android 8.1 OS and Snapdragon 845 chipset.

Are These Rumors True?

You need to use critical thinking skills to decipher the validity of the early phone leaks.  From what we know, the source that leaked the photos is reliable.
